2 Chronicles 7:14
if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Why it is worth knowing
- The call is to God’s own people, not outsiders
- Four conditions: humble themselves, pray, seek God’s face, turn from sin
- Three divine responses: hear, forgive, heal
- The initiative is human (repentance) but the response is entirely divine
Where it sits: 2 Chronicles 7:13-15
“If I shut up the sky so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to prayer that is made in this place.

Background
God spoke these words to Solomon after the dedication of the temple, in response to Solomon’s great prayer. The context is covenant: God is describing what will happen when Israel falls into sin and faces judgment (drought, locusts, pestilence). The conditions are not for initial salvation but for covenant restoration. The four verbs (humble, pray, seek, turn) describe the movement from pride to dependence. “Heal their land” extends the promise beyond individuals to the community and its circumstances. This verse has been applied across history whenever God’s people have faced national crisis.
