Why it is worth knowing
- Our strength comes from Christ, not from ourselves
- This promise is rooted in contentment, not personal ambition
- Paul wrote this from prison: real strength in hard circumstances
- “All things” refers to enduring every circumstance with peace
Where it sits: Philippians 4:11-13
Not that I speak because of lack, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content in it. I know how to be humbled, and I also know how to abound. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Background
Paul wrote Philippians from prison, likely in Rome, around AD 61. The letter radiates joy despite his chains. This verse concludes a passage on contentment: Paul had learned, through experience, to be at peace in every situation. The strength he speaks of is the power to remain faithful through hardship, not a promise of personal success.
